Introduction

Apologies if this all seems a bit rushed, I just need to write this down.

When my husband and I found out at our 20 week scan that our baby had Spina Bifida, we had to make the agonizing decision to undergo a medical termination.

We had a week between finding out and giving birth to our baby, during which I scoured the Internet looking for other people's accounts who had experienced the same thing.

I found plenty in Australia and America, however only a smattering of forum posts from women in the UK. I felt that although the pain of a mother losing a child was a language universally spoken, I could only relate to those in The UK. I wanted to hear first hand accounts of medical terminations in UK hospitals, I wanted to know the protocol and I wanted to know about the aftercare provided by our health system.

So, although my experience won't be indicative of what every woman facing this horrendous situation, it will give you a brief outline of what to expect.

Also, I feel that publishing the worst time in my life will be somewhat cathartic.
